The family center of maine

Meet the Owners

The Family Center of Maine is family owned and operated by Jason Adamo and Marissa Ritz; a sibling duo who have set out to help the greater Southern Maine Communities. The Family Center came to fruition after Marissa Ritz, an LCSW, set her eyes on building a practice that would not only help members of our community struggling with life transitions, mental health, family dynamics and substance use, but would also address the need for clinicians within the community to have strong supervision, training, fair schedules, a liveable wage and a team around them to support them in the wonderful work they do each day with clients.

Jason Adamo came to the vision with his years of experience in business and his strong personal connection and commitment to the recovery community. Jason was drawn to the concept of helping others with both mental health and substance abuse issues. Jason’s background in business development and growth was essential to the launch of the company in September 2021. Together, Jason and Marissa set the stage for a mental health company focused on taking care of both clients and clinicians. The goal is to provide the best outpatient mental health care that the company can, while being certain that the clinicians offering services are well cared for too! In her spare time, Marissa enjoys anything outside, her partner, her children and their puppy! In his spare time, Jason enjoys travel, fishing and spending time with family!

KEYLA ALSTON-GRIFFIN, LMSW-CC

Mental Health Therapist, South Portland
Read More

Keyla believes there is no one-size-fits-all version of growth—and no single story that defines who we are. Her work is grounded in the belief that each person carries a unique inner logic, shaped by family, culture, environment, and lived experience. She sees healing as a process that begins with honoring that complexity.

Keyla supports adolescents (12+), young adults, and families as they navigate life transitions, identity exploration, emotional overwhelm, and the messiness of becoming. Many of her clients are trying to make sense of who they are, how they relate to others, or how to hold space for big emotions in a world that often doesn’t make room for them. Some feel misunderstood or unseen, while others are moving through grief, change, or seeking reconnection with themselves.

Her approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and nonjudgmental. Drawing from evidence-based practices—including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused methods—Keyla helps clients feel safe, seen, and grounded in what matters most to them. She listens deeply, asks thoughtful questions, and works with clients to identify patterns, build practical tools, and take meaningful steps forward.

Keyla holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Southern Maine (USM). Her background in nonprofit strategy and systems innovation shapes her deep respect for nuance, context, and the layered narratives people carry. In addition to her clinical work, she engages in research at the intersection of ethics, mental health, and emerging technologies, particularly how digital tools influence identity, perception, and emotional well-being.

Outside of work, Keyla enjoys performing in children’s theater, creating found-object art, and spending time with family and friends. She offers a space where clients don’t have to explain everything, where their insight is honored, and where progress is measured in steps that feel right for them.

BELLE BOCAL, LCSW

Mental Health Therapist, Dunstan Crossing
Read More

Belle is a Vietnamese American clinician and community builder, born and raised in Maine. Belle graduated with her Master of Social Work from the University of New England as a Care for the Underserved Pathways AHEC Scholar with an Interprofessional Education Honors Distinction. Throughout her life and educational training, she often thought about how different cultures considered access to care. For example, there is no word for “mental illness” in Vietnamese, all they have is “bệnh tâm thần,” which translates to madness and carries shame. Belle wants to give others more through destigmatization with clients empowering them to seek healing and support. Nationally, and in Maine, there is not enough representation of people of color in mental health (less than 5% nationally practicing).

From a practice standpoint, Belle works collaboratively from a person-centered outlook and believes in the healing power of therapeutic relationships. We deserve to be unconditionally valued, as well as understood in the context of the systems that impact us. Belle incorporates the following in her consideration of the work with each individual’s respective needs:

Attachment Theory (Bowlby), as well as Internal Family Systems (Bowen), and Polyvagal Theory (Porges),

Belle believes that our relationships, and how we engage within them, shape who we are and create our outlooks on life.

When she is not in the office, you can probably find her in search of next oat milk latte or catching up on reading in a local coffee shop.

Feeling trapped in the same patterns can speak to both your human condition, and a need for change! I help folks with anxiety, depression, and relationship issues move towards a better life. My experience in the addiction treatment field has also given me valuable insight for the loved ones of people struggling with a substance use disorder; as well as, those looking for support maintaining their own recovery.

The therapy I practice is focused on insight. I help people understand themselves better by exploring connections between past experiences, unconscious beliefs, and present day patterns (thoughts, emotions, and behavior). With a deeper insight towards the ‘why’ behind a problem I find people are quick to discover the ‘how’ of their desired change.

In therapy sessions I am frequently asking for feedback on what is, or isn’t working. I view the work I do with clients as a collaborative process, where I show up as a consultant to your journey. In session I tend to rely on: Coherence Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. As a clinical supervisor, I seek to orient new therapists to the field with a solid foundation in ethics and clinical theory. I look forward to working with you!
